Ollie the Labradoodle

Ollie is one happy go-lucky labradoodle. But it hasnt always been smooth sailing for this clever pooch.

One day last year his owners notice a large mass under neck and took him to the vet to have it looked at. The local clinic took samples of the lump and then send them to an eternal pathologist for revew. Unfortunately for Ollie and his family the results suggested Lumphoma (cancer of the lymph nodes).

Ollie was then referred to the Internal Medicine Department here at Melbourne Veterinary Specialist Centre. We recommended that Ollie have further diagnostic testing which included the collection of Bone Marrow samples and a lymph node biopsy to check for any abnormalities. Ollie’s owner was happy to go ahead with these recommendations, so we admitted Ollie to the clinic to complete these procedures. Once Ollie was sedated the recommended tests were performed, the bone marrow sample was taken first then a biopsy of his lymph node. These tests were then sent to an external laboratory for a pathologist to review.

These results did confirm that Ollie had Lymphoma (cancer of the lymph nodes). Ollie’s owner was advised of the most suitable protocol, a 40 week chemotherapy treatment schedule which he decided to go ahead with.

Ollie recovered well from the diagnostic procedures and was given his first chemotherapy treatment not long after which he coped well with. The suggested chemotherapy schedule included medication to be given at home in between treatments. Ollie was then due back for his next treatment in two weeks.

Ollie continued to do well with his treatments and his lymph nodes reduced back to normal size during his chemotherapy protocol. Ollie finished his treatments in remission in November 2014 and still comes in for regular visits to make sure there have been no changes.

We enjoy when Ollie comes into the clinic for he’s revisits. He is a very special patient of ours and is a beautiful boy who loves being social with other dogs and people.
