Tarni's Story

posted: 22/May/2015

Tarni is a beautiful 4 year old boxer who first presented at Brandon Park Veterinary Hospital with lethargy, salivating and in appetence. She was then referred to the Animal Emergency Centre with the concerns of possible pancreatitis, a foreign body or gastroenteritis. The AEC performed radiographs and Tarni was hospitalised with fluid therapy and monitored overnight. On repeat radiographs the next morning it was evident that it was more than likely an esophageal foreign body obstruction, possibly due to some bone she had eaten the day before.

Tarni was then referred to the Internal Medicine Department here at Melbourne Veterinary Specialist Centre for an endoscope and removal of the potential foreign body. If this procedure was unsuccessful Tarni would need to be internally referred to our surgery department for surgical removal of the foreign body.

With Tarni under anesthetic and with the use of an endoscope we managed to pull out a sizable piece of bone! Tarni recovered well and was able to go home that evening. She was discharged with some medications to help with her recovery, and so far is doing really well at home.

We wish Tarni all the best and hope that she is much more careful in the future as bones are no fun when swallowed!

Ollie’s owner had noticed a large mass under his neck and took him to the vet to have it looked at. The local clinic took some samples of the lump and then sent them to an external pathologist for review. The results suggested Lymphoma.
